Fedex can deliver

Andy Morris looks at the form at Sandown this Thursday night.

...it’s hard to look past Enry Walt who has recorded 29.74s.

There are sure to be plenty of exciting races at Sandown when the first of five rounds of the Solo Melbourne Cup Preludes hits town, and with places in the Melbourne Cup heats in November up for grabs, there will be plenty of quality on show.

First of the Preludes, race 5, could be the highlight of the night as the excellent Radley Bale comes up against Fedex, with little to choose between them in betting.

Fedex has won multiple Group One races, while Radley Bale is an excellent sprinter and one of three Graeme Bate entrants in this one. In fact you could make a good argument for either of the other two, Cooper Bale out of box one or Admiral Bale in box four to be at the head of affairs.

Fedex boasts the quickest best time of 29.46, and some 27 wins over a 74-start career, marking him out as the potential winner here. He has a good draw in box seven and is seeking a first victory since scoring at Albion Park in June.

Admiral Bale has won his last two, but betting suggests he is the outsider of Bate's trio.

Radley Bale loves this track, and will appreciate the outside box - he won here in good style when beating Manuel Bale in a quick 29.73s.

The obvious contenders in the next Prelude are Ian Bindley's Where's Hannibal and Gibbsy on Fire, a Neville Tait entrant.

Where's Hannibal looks the hardest to beat after his fast win at The Meadows last Saturday night, and has scored in four of his last five outings. Gibbsy on Fire will like his draw in box eight, and could start favourite after an impressive recent sequence, while Zambola Bale won last time out.

In the third Prelude, look for Greywinds Doll to follow up a blistering win at Sandown last Thursday. She has an excellent record here and a fast 29.49s best time, quite apart from having held the Indian sign over one of her main dangers, Iceman Raikkonen.

Last Thursday's second to Greywinds Doll, Enry Walt, goes in the fourth Prelude and despite a tough draw in box five could start favourite.

He looks the obvious choice in this one, though Bolero Bale won last time out and is a major hope of Graham Bate. On best times, though, it's hard to look past Enry Walt who has recorded 29.74s.
