Chasse well in the chase at Flemington

...with plenty of speed on paper and a significant drop in weight, Saturday looks a great chance for Chasse to register win number three.

Given Chasse's one effort at racing beyond the mile yielded a solid third-placing, Ben Asgari feels he can rise to a win this Saturday at Flemington.

The Peter Snowden-trained Chasse looks extremely well-placed in Saturday's $70,000 SES Victorian Volunteers Handicap at Flemington (1700m).

Despite being a talented racehorse, the four-year-old son of Octagonal has a racing style of settling near the rear of the field and rattling home, which has no doubt had plenty to do with the gelding having won just the two of seventeen starts.

However, with plenty of speed on paper and a significant drop in weight, Saturday looks a great chance for Chasse to register win number three.

Drawn in barrier seven, Chris Symons should have Chasse travelling somewhere worse than mid-field, and with plenty of speed drawn out wide a genuine tempo looks ensured.
Significantly, Chasse hasn't carried less than 57.5kgs at each of his last five runs, and after carrying 59kg and then 60kg at his first two runs back from a spell this preparation, he may not know himself with just the 54kgs on his back.

Though he rises from 0-78 grade to a 0-89 on Saturday, the field doesn't look overly strong and after chasing home the likes of Flyingconi and Lonhreign at his last couple, this race is arguably no stronger.

It is also worth noting that at his one previous effort racing beyond the mile, Chasse ran a great third behind Ulundi at Flemington after getting to the front too soon and giving away 6.5kgs to the winner.

Likely to be each way odds on the exchange come race day, Chasse looks a good bet on a tricky card of racing at Flemington.
