Harmonious win at Canterbury for Begg

United Harmony is also a good performer at the Canterbury circuit, placing four times from nine attempts, including a win.

Brad Thompson is sticking with the Grahame Begg stable, and on this occasion their runner United Harmony, at Canterbury on Saturday.

After identifying Cabernet as the best bet last weekend, I am sticking with the trainer for this weekend's value pick, United Harmony, currently available at $8 on Betfair.

A winner of her first-up assignment on a slow track, the daughter of Not A Single Doubt signaled a handy preparation was in store after beating the lightly-raced and promising Let's Rock'N'Roll at Kembla Grange in December.

Second-up she had a troublesome run and jarred up on the dry track when beaten by 10 lengths at Warwick Farm on January 2.

Begg has since given the five-year-old time to recover from that outing, with a freshen up of nearly four weeks. She will carry 55.5kg, with stable jockey Brenton Avdulla taking the ride from gate six.

The expected wet track is of no concern, in actual fact it should benefit her greatly as United Harmony has never been beaten far on rain-affected going.

Her worst effort on wet ground is a fifth placing, but she is twice a winner on a slow track, and runner-up on another occasion.

She is also a good performer at the Canterbury circuit, placing four times from nine attempts, including a win.

Despite just a seven-horse field with the scratching of Mrs Onnassis, there looks to be enough pace in the race for it to suit.
